Dumfries is an old town located on the River Nith in Dumfries
and Galloway. Well known as the home and resting place of Robert
Burns, Dumfries is steeped in history. Visitors may be interested
in Burns House, wher the bard once lived, or the Burns Museum.
The 'Theatre Royal' was frequented by Burns and is the oldest
working theatre in Scotland.J.M. Barrie was inspired to write
Peter Pan by a garden in Dumfries, where he lived as a boy.
The surrounding countryside of Dumfries and Galloway is beautiful
and peaceful, with many other places of interest. Dumfries and
Galloway is popular with hillwalkers, bird watchers, nature and
wildlife lovers, fisherman and paricularly golfers as the region
is home to over 30 golf courses. There are many other leisure
and recreaional activities to be enjoyed in Dumfries, which has
2 cinemas, a swimming pool, various sports complexes, museums
and art galleries. Dumfries is home to the Queen of the South
Football Club, which is located next to an Ice Rink and Indoor
bowling centre.
